Angela Saini is a Canadian singer-songwriter from Calgary, Alberta. Her brand of pop-folk at local clubs, breaking into the music scene before she had finished her first year of high school. Her song “Nurse Me Back to Health” displays her beautiful voice, as she sings will a lot of conviction. Her song is beautiful in both music and lyrics and has a catchy hook/chorus. It doesn’t hurt that her song is also well produced. She is runner-up for “Best Female Artist” in the 6th Annual International Acoustic Music Awards, her solo EP “The Story” is due out in 2010.

Doug Spears is a Bluegrass/Folk singer-songwriter from Orlando, Florida. He shows is professionalism and artistry in this mid-tempo but lively song “Yellow Butter Moon”. Henhouse Prowlers is a Chicago based traditional bluegrass band. Their music has made it as a soundtrack to a PBS series. Their song “ Simplify” just shows how professional and artistic they are. It is a great mid-tempo, lively with bang-on vocal harmonies. With excellent production and choice of instrumentation fiddle, dobro, five-string banjo, upright bassist and guitars, they are ready for radio. Meghan Trainor is the youngest winner of the history of the International Acoustic Music Awards, she won Best Female Artist in the 6th Annual IAMA. This teen phenom won when she was just 16 years old. She is from Nantucket and has been writing and performing music for over 4 years. She writes both music, lyrics and perform the music and all of the vocals on my songs. Multi-talented, she play keyboards and guitar and auxillary percussion and trumpet. Like Debbie Gibson, she does all of the recording and production myself. She attended the 5 week Berklee College of Music’s Performance Program last summer.

Meghan displays excellent vocals, phrasing and oh so soulful in songs such as “Waterfalls”, “Simple Love” and “Learning to say I Love You”. Even though she this good now, she still has room for improvement with artistry, lyrics and story telling. This is the artist to watch for. Record labels – sign her up! She’s only 16!

Nashville based group One Mile South won a runner-up award in the 2nd Annual IAMA in the Folk/Americana/Roots category. The group is made up of Tim Schneider and Gary Bunning. Their song “This Side Of A Heartache” sounds like a hit song you heard on radio – very polished. Excellent throughout! It dosen’t hurt to have catchy and infectious hooks/chorus. Glimpses of Folk, Americana, Roots and Alternative Country influences can be heard throughout. “I’m Home” displays good vocals, song with great lyrical imagery. Victoria Vox won a runner-up award in the 2nd Annual IAMA in the open category. Her beautiful voice shines through songs like “America”. Victoria is an artist to watch as she displays personality and originality not usually found in new singer-songwriters today.

Casey Desmond won the runner-up award in the Best Female Artist Category of the 2nd Annual IAMA. Casey sounds like a Celtic Folk version of Alanis Morrissette in her song “The child.” Although the Chorus seems like it could come a little sooner, Casey on the hold sounded more mature than her age of 19 years old. She has the full package of killer vocals, good lyrics/story, killer hooks/chorus and such maturity in her artistry.

Mother Jane won first prize in the 2nd Annual IAMA (AAA/Alternative category) with their song “Look In The Mirror”. Mother Jane is made up of duo Beth Burden and Lisa Raymond (not the Tennis Player of the same name). Their bluesy vocals shines throughout and it didn’t hurt for them to have radio friendly songs which sounds like a good mix of contemporary folk sound of Edgy acoustic pop/blues.

Twin sisters Kate and Kacey Coppola’s commercial Pop Folk style with “Circle Around” (which they won First Prize in the Best Group/Duo category of the 2nd Annual IAMA) with nice music production and good vocal harmonies. Their song “Break” shows that they are versatile in showing some Blues influence. Their dashing model looks would certainly add to their good music and make them signable to a major record label.

We would strongly suggest the twins do writing collaborations with other writers and write more uptempo and midtempo tunes. They certainly have great potential.

Suzanne Teng won First Prize in the Instrumental category of the 2nd Annual IAMA with her song new age “Chicoy” and also has another song “Katyia’s Dance” which went to the top 10 finalist in the same category. Suzanne is an accomplished flutist, displays excellent phrasing in flute. Excellent hooks in her compositions. The whole performance and composition flows very well with ambient sounds. Nice touch in the music production and arrangement with light percussion. It is surprisingly not over-produced or overwhelming at all.

Suzanne has a master’s degree in music from Boston University’s School for the Arts and has studied with some of the finest flute teachers in the world. Her music has received nationwide airplay in United States.

Darrell Scott has the entire package of refreshingly beautiful lyrics, great music, great vocals, good instrumentalist (guitar, dobro, mandolin, just to mention a few) and originality. His Americana sounds combines with Folk and Bluegrass influences. He wrote Grammy Award winning songs “Long Time Gone” and “Heartbreak Town,” both top hits for the Dixie Chicks. “Great Day to be Alive” helped Travis Tritt complete his comeback; “Born to Fly” was a No. 1 hit for Sara Evans, and the list goes on. In 2004, Scott had songs recorded by Tim McGraw, Keb Mo, Mountain Heart, Julie Roberts, Kathy Mattea, Andy Griggs, Faith Hill, and others. In all, Scott has had more than 45 cuts by other artists. He has also performed at the legendary Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN.

Scottish Canadian Singer-songwriter David Francey shines in his songs. His Rootsy Folk songs “Morning Train” exhibits outstanding lyrics and music that keeps you captivated right till the end. “Greenfields” just shows you what a great storyteller and artist that David is.

Michael “Blind Dog” Gatewood is a very professional blues harmonica player. His song ““Street Corner Stomp” shows his artistic one-man show. It is easy to see why he won the Telluride Acoustic Blues festival in 2002. His CD “I Hear the Blues Callin’ and the Devil is Near” is available now. The title cut on this work is also excellent and features his gravely voice in the simple but meaningful lyrics. Stuart Rosh’s song “Through My Heart” showcases compelling musical vignette reflects his unique and sometimes quirky songwriting style. His bio describes his voice as “a blend of Willie Nelson, Howlin’ Wolf and Charlie Daniels.” That about sums it up. All in all, his music is worth repeated listening. The band members have played with Delbert McClinton, Marshall Tucker Band and with some members of The Heartbreakers. Elizabeth Russell’s song “Journey” is a good well-written piece, with a bass line reminiscent of the early 60’s. Her words are clear and her voice is husky in a pleasing sort of way. She had to overcome extreme stage fright in order to sing in front of an audience. We’re glad she did. Excellent instrumental riffs and guitar licks add to the overall enjoyment of this song.

“Skate Along the Edge” is an outstanding production of a very well-written, original piece. This woman is a great performer and songwriter. The lyrics are very compelling and the story they tell is clear and poignant. Excellent instrumentals and back voices add to the dynamics of this song.

Melissa Gibson’s song “The Journey” is a wonderful depiction of the great mystery we call life. Melissa’s voice is clear and haunting, reminiscent of Joni Mitchell. This piece is well crafted and in the same style as “Vincent” by Don McLean. The accompanying instrumentals are perfectly balanced so as to enhance the lyric and not overpower it. Sean Altman, founder and former front man for Rockappella (of “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego” fame) has written and performs a brilliant piece called “Unhappy Anniversary.” Sean sings his original lyrics in a clear, edgy style on his latest album, “alt.mania” from Chow Fun Records. This song is the real thing. The killer chorus just screams “wow”, it hooks linger in your head for hours. You know it’s just a song and you know he’s just a singer, but the message pierces through and anyone who has ever been wounded by love will understand his pain. The youthfulness of John Mayer meets the guitar licks of the late George Harrison. Very original. Very fresh. VERY good! “Declaration Song” by Jason Harwell embodies the best of Americana. He captures the youthful longing for exploration conflicted with the fear of the unknown. And there are many more layers of meaning and symbolism in the clear, clean lyrics of this work. Jason has moved back to Georgia and started a record label “Rebuilt Records”. He also tours extensively.

Kellie Lin Knott has a knack for words and voice to match. Her song “There Is A Star” evokes childhood memories interspersed with the expectations of young adulthood. Her style is enthusiastic, yet never overpowering. The tone of her work is somewhere between acoustic folk and sultry barroom jazz, a perfect blend for the duality of the song.

She’s worked to overcome difficulties in her life—first her shyness by singing in the closet to her dog Brandy and later undergoing two surgeries to repair her arm and prove wrong the doctors who said she would never play the guitar again. Now she’s on the road full time and sings and plays and writes for all she’s worth—which is quite a lot.

Acoustic singer/songwriter Gregory Becker (the ee cummings lack of capital letters is his idea) lists his secondary genre as Americana . His song “As High As I Want To Be” is an excellent example of such. A lyrical eulogy to JFK Jr., the song evokes memories of the tragedies of that family and offers a haunting perspective on the life of a young boy who grew up in the spotlight without a father.

The music is soft and subtle acoustic, reminiscent of Bob Dylan without the hyperbole. Easy to listen to, the melody is simple and the rhythm is gentle. It is easy to see why gregory becker has played at spots like Douglas Corner, The Bluebird and The French Quarter. Watch for his album “It’s About Time” coming soon from Dragonfly Records.
